I-15/Limonite Ave Interchange
Improvement Project
Drew Woodside
I am a fifth year graduate from Cal Poly Pomona (CPP) who was involved, both as a member and as an officer, with the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Institute of Transportation Engineers. I was born and raised in Temecula California, and I am big on sports of all kinds including: soccer, running, snowboarding, rock climbing, and hiking. After school is done I plan to get back into music, rock climbing, and a whole list of activities that have taken a back seat while I attended CPP.
I will be graduating with an interest in Transportation and Environmental work. I plan on exploring the field of environmental my first years out of school. After a few years I plan on going to grad school. The area of study is up in the air at the moment, after grad school I will make my decision on if I want to continue to pursue a PhD and move in to the educational field or continue working in industry. I feel confident in saying that I have a solid life plan for my next 5-10 years but after that I have multiple routes that are conditional in terms of what path I will take.
This project allowed me to refine my abilities regarding communication, presentations, and flexibility. Communication in terms of finding an effective means for exchanging information between 12 members on a single project. Was a big undertaking at first but seeing the end of this project has allowed me to realize that we were able to accomplish this task. Technical presentation performance in front of a large audience can always be daunting but the only way to get better is to do it frequently and this project allowed for that. Flexibility in terms of being able to see high amounts of work and effort that I placed into the SPUI go down the drain when the traffic team came back with the results showing that the SPUI would not be able to handle the forecasted traffic conditions and therefore would not be a viable alternative.
